2nd R.S.Tolia Memorial Lecture on the Occasion of International Mountain Day was delivered by Padma Bhushan & Raman Magsaysay Awardee, A famous Environmentalist Shri Chandi Prashad Bhattt on “Himalaya: Sensitivity, Current Threats and Challenges” on 11th Dec at RSC, Vigyan Dham, Dehradun. UCOST Dehradun, Sustainable development Forum Uttarakhand (SDFU) and G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment & Sustainable Development (GBPNIHESD) jointly organized International Mountain Day at RSC Dehradun. During the program, Second “Dr RS Tolia memorial Lecture was delivered Shri Chandi Prasad Bhatt. In his deliberations entitled, “Himalaya: Sensitivity, Current Threats & Challenges”, he chalked out geographic and geologic characteristics of the Himalaya and its impact on civilizations in & its adjoining areas. He emphasized on to carry out scientific studies on various calamities, their plausible causes, disaster early warning system and mitigation measures. Dr Rajendra Dobhal, DG UCOST welcomed all the dignitaries, SDFU & GBPNIHESD officials, participating students and escort teachers. The gathering was also addressed by Prof. AN Purohit, former, Vice Chancellor, HNB Garhwal Central University and Sri Nrip S. Napalchiyal, former Chief Secretary Uttarakhand; Sri S.K. Das, former Chief Secretary Uttarakhand; Smt Vibha Puri Das, former Principal Secretary; and Sri BS Burfal, Former PCCF Uttarakhand were among dignitaries on the occasion. More than 180 participants including 104 Students of Dolphin PG College, Beehive College, BDM Sr Secondary School and Brooklyn Doon Marshal School Herbertpur along with escort teachers and UCOST staff participated in the program. At the end, Ms Vineeta Shah, Secretary, SDFU delivered vote of thanks. Participants also visited Himalaya Gallery after the program.
