The Council organized a brief program on release of a book entitled “S&T Applications in Rural Areas” in its premises at Vigyan Dham on 5th November, 2020. The book is an outcome of deliberations of UCOST supported Workshop on “S&T Applications in Rural Areas” organized by Department of Zoology, Government (PG) College, Raipur, Dehradun, where contributors working in various academic and research institutions participated. The Book (ISBN: 978-81-944874-0-1) is published by UCOST, which documents various technologies and processes including traditional knowledge systems being used in Uttarakhand.
In his opening remark, Dr Rajendra Dobhal, Director General UCOST congratulated Dr Madhu Thapliyal, Editor of the book and said that cultivation of S&T among common masses is a challenging task. The fundamental science needs laboratories and trained human resource, which results in knowledge generation, publication and innovation. On the other hand, extension of S&T and innovation is crucial aspect. This comprise application part of need based solutions of local problems and issues, which need rigorous efforts, skills and capacity building of end users. The council has been working on both the aspects in Uttarakhand. This book covers second phase of S&T extension and its application for rural areas and economy.
The program was ended with vote of thanks by Dr Madhu Thapliyal for funds and consistent moral support for workshop and this publication by the Council, and Dr Dobhal in particular.
