On December 23, 2017, Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Vigyan Gram Sankul Pariyojana was inaugurated by Honorable Dr. Harshvardhan, Cabinet Minister, Science and Technology, Bio Technology, Earth Sciences, Environment, Forest and Climate Change. The programme was chaired by honorable Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat, Chief Minister, Uttarakhand, and other dignified persons Shri Yashpal Arya ji (MLA, Transport Minister, Uttarakhand state), Shri Sahdev Singh Pundir, MLA, Sahaspur, Dehradun, Shri Ravinath Raman (Secretary, S&T, Govt. of Uttarakhand), Shri Chnadra Mohan (Adviser, DST, GoI) and Shri Mahesh Sharma (Ex-Chairman, KVIC, India) were also present during the event organised at the premises of Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST), Vigyan Dham.
Under the Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Vigyan Gram Sankul Pariyojana, four clusters namely Gaindikhata, Bhigun, Bajira and Kausani have been selected from the state, wherein the natural resources will be developed by setting of latest science and technical intervention, in these clusters, inputs to the already existing resources and skill development of the villagers by trainings and exposure visits to various labs at national levels will be done. This will be helpful in enhancing livelihood opportunities at village level and keep check on migration from hills.
Dr. Harshvardhan inaugurated the much awaited programme, after its formal launch at Delhi on 22nd September 2017. He told that Uttarakhand State is full of natural resources and have immense potential to be explored and this could only be developed by means of Science and Technology at the village level. He stated that this pilot programme can be spread to other 100 clusters in Uttarakhand very soon, for which Dept. Science and Technology will provide its full support to the State Science and Technology Department and State Council. He assured that national S&T institutes (ICAR, CSIR and IIT’s) will be consulted and provide its full Scientific and Technical support to achieve the targets of this project.
Honorable Chief Minister, Uttarakhand, appreciated the concept of the project and agreed that the project will be helpful for the sustainable development of the hills by using indigenous knowledge and will be helpful in checking the migration from the hills. He assured for the full support of state government for the project implementation.
Dr. Mahesh Sharma briefed about the project and its concept. He informed, how these clusters will be developed and benefiting 60 villages covering approximately one lakh population of the State.
Shri Chandra Mohan (Adviser DST), importance of Science and Technology in congratulates State Council for initiating the programme in a planned way in the state and assured that DST will provide all possible support to the programme.
Dr. Rajendra Dobhal delivered vote of thanks and assured that the programme will be executed with collaboration with the help of State departments and National institutes in time bound manner.
