UCOST Organised IPR Awareness Workshop at Govt P.G. College, Pithoragrah

Awareness on Intellectual Property Rights – A one day IPR awareness workshop was organized at Govt. P.G. College, Pithoragarh on 17th March, 2016. The workshop entitled “Awareness on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)- Specific  In Geographical Indications” was inaugurated by the Principal of Govt. P.G College, Pithoragrah. The workshop witnessed the presence of Dr. Kirti Joshi, Scientific Officer, UCOST, Dehradun as Chief Guest and Mr. Manoj Singh and Mr. Himanshu Goel as Special Guest. The workshop benefited around 200 participated including faculties and students.

Dr D.S Pangety, Principal, Govt. P.G. College, Pithoragrah, welcomed the Chief Guest, other dignitaries and the participants. The workshop was inaugurated by the the Chief Guest, Dr. Kirti Joshi, Scientific Officer, UCOST, Dehradun and Mr. Manoj Singh, Mr. Himanshu Goel and Dr D.S Pangety, Principal, Govt. P.G. College, Pithoragrah

In his speech, Dr D.S Pangety stressed on the need for registering intellectual creations and using IPR’s for the betterment of nation. He explained the importance of IPR protection and how inventions & intellectual creations could help to boost economic and technological developments in the country.

The first technical session was delivered by Dr. Kirti Joshi (Scientific Officer, UCOST). He explained the basic overview of intellectual property rights mainly focusing on the Geographical Indications. The next session was delivered by Mr. Manoj Singh, Scientific Assistant UCOST. He spoke about the importance of Prior art search in the research and academic field . Last session was delivered by Mr. Himanshu Goel, Project Scientist, PIC , UCOST spoke about the patenting System in India. He told that Patent should be done before publishing and any person can file patent application in India. He discussed about Patent document, Non-patentable inventions and precaution to be taken before filling a patent application. He highlighted the importance of patents particularly in the present regime of globalization and liberalization and advised all the delegates to file maximum patents. This was followed by question-answer session.
