UCOST represented North Indian State S&T Councils during State S&T Ministers Conclave (SSTMC) in IISF-2020

Largest Science Festival, the India International Science Festival (IISF) 2020 is being organized in virtual environment from 22-25th December, 2020, which is coordinated by Department of Science Technology (DST), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), and Vijnana Bharati.

As a part of IISF-2020, dialogues will be initiated on ‘Post COVID-19 Livelihood Opportunities-Rebooting the System’ to harness the views and action plans of S&T Ministers of all States & Union Territories to combat the current socio-economic condition at the state level due to COVID 19 on 23rd December 2020. The Department of Science and Technology (DST) through its State Science and Technology Programme (SSTP) has created a unique Centre-State cooperation mechanism, by supporting State S&T Councils to promote the ethos of STI at a local level. The Uttarakhand State Council for S&T (UCOST) given an opportunity to represent Northern Indian state Uttarakhand, UP, J&K, HP, Punjab and Haryana and to showcase their plans and programs on “Post COVID-19 Livelihood Opportunities-Rebooting the System”.

Dr Rajendra Dobhal, Director General, UCOST presented elaborated work of Northern Indian state S&T Councils in his presentation, “Creating Livelihood Opportunities through S&T Councils of Northern States in Covid-19 Scenario”. Apart from their ongoing works, these councils have initiated remarkable work such as Skill/Capacity Building on Green Economy; e-waste management; Technology Resource Centre (TRC) development; Nanoparticle based Antibacterial & Antiviral Nano-coating development for PPE kit; Covid-19 Dashboard development; organizing webinar/e-workshop; online quiz; facilitation in setting up of COVID Testing facility; assessment of impact of Covid-19 on vulnerable segment; Support To Innovations /Tech Interventions of Start Ups & Entrepreneurs; Innovations mapping from academic institutions, industry & state departments, etc. DST, GoI officials and panelists appreciated efforts of S&T Councils. They suggested to expand the work of creation of Green Jobs and capacity building in this Covid-19 scenario.
