UCOST ORGANISED IPR AWARENESS WORKSHOP AT GOVT P.G. COLLEGE, KOTDWAR
A one day IPR awareness programme was organized at Govt. P.G. College, Kotdwar on 19th September 2015. The workshop was inaugurated by Health Minister of Uttarakhand, Shri. Surinder Singh Negi. The workshop also witnessed the presence of Dr. Rajendra Dobhal, Director General, UCOST, Dehradun and Dr. B. K. Maheswari, Professor, IIT Roorkee, as guests of honor. About 200 persons participated in the workshop.
Dr M. S. Rautela, Principal, Govt. P.G. College, Kotdwar, welcomed the chief guest, other dignitaries and the participants. The workshop was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Shri. Surinder Singh Negi, Health Minister of Uttarakhand. In his speech, he stressed the need for registering intellectual creations and using IPR’s for the betterment of nation.
The Guest of Honour, Dr. Rajendra Dobhal, Director General, UCOST, Dehradun spoke about the emergence and development of IPR regime in India. He was instrumental in providing an insight as to how inventors in the past had helped technologies for social development. He explained the importance of IPR protection and how inventions & intellectual creations could help to boost economic and technological developments in the country.
The first technical session was delivered by Dr Sanjeev Kumar Majumdar, Deputy Manager, National Research Development Corporation, New Delhi. He explained how patents can be registered and assigned just the same way as any other immovable property and stressed its importance. The next session was delivered by Mr. Anil Kumar, Scientist-B, UCOST, Dehradun. He spoke on copyright system in India and explained basic nuances involved in Copyright registration and infringement. He presented the latest case of copyright infringement involving ‘Sholay film’ wherein Ram Gopal Verma has been fined with Rs. 10 Lakhs by Delhi High Court. Last session was delivered by Mr. Manoj Kumar, Scientific Assistant, UCOST on Trade Marks and G.I. He gave many examples of Trade Marks and G. I. in India and procedure for their registration. This was followed by question-answer session.
