Condolence meeting was held for the demise of Padmabhushan Dr. Vinod Prakash Sharma (FNA, FASc, FNASc, FAMS, FTWAS)

A condolence meeting was held for the demise of Padmabhushan Dr. Vinod Prakash Sharma FNA, FASc, FNASc, FAMS, FTWAS at UCOST on 12/102015 at 11:00 am at UCOST meeting hall. Dr. Vinod Prakash Sharma was a renowned scientist of international repute known for his path-breaking work and contribution in the field of basic and applied research of Malaria and vector biology. Born on 6 April 1938, he obtained MSc (1960), DPhil (1964) and DSc (1979) degrees from Allahabad University. He was Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Notre Dame and Purdue University, USA (1964-68). The legendry scientist has developed many technologies. He conceptualized the bioenvironmental malaria control strategy as an alternative to spraying and successfully demonstrated malaria control in various eco-epidemiological settings. He has 40 years of research and field experience. He has published books on Anopheles, edited 14 books and authored more than 400 scientific papers in reputed journals.

Padmashri Prof. A.N. Purohit condole the demise of Dr. Sharma and acknowledged his worldwide reputation in the field of malarial research. Dr Rajendra Dobhal expressed that Dr. Sharma was a very down to earth scientist and a visionary too. During the 8th Uttarakhand State Science & Technology Congress, 2013 UCOST conferred him the Science & Technology Excellence Award. He had a key role in establishing the Uttarakhand Chapter of National Academy of Sciences India in Uttarakhand. The condolence meeting was attended by Dr. B.P. Purohit, Dr. D.P. Uniyal, Dr. Arun Kuksal, Amit Pokhriyal, Dr. Ashutosh Mishra and Dr. Kirti Joshi etc.
