Training on Plant Tissue Culture: A Course Designed for M.Sc. (Botany) Students of P.G. Colleges in Uttarakhand (7-16 June, 2007) A 10 days training programme on basic techniques of plant tissue culture and plant biotechnology was organized by DSB Campus, Kumaun University, Nainital during 7-16 June 2007. The training was given to the 28 participants from different P.G. colleges of Kumaun and Garhwal Universities including DSB Campus and SSJ Campus of Kumaun University and Pauri Campus of Garhwal University. The eminent resource persons were from various university of Punjab, Chandigarh, Udaipur, Delhi, Haridwar, G.B. Pant Institute, Pant Nagar. A key note lecture was delivered by an eminent Botanist and expert on tissue culture of Orchids by Prof. S.P. Vij.
Training on Solid Waste Management A series of Solid Waste Management (SWM) Training Workshops for National Service Scheme volunteers and programme officers of educational institutions of Dehradun, Haridwar and Rishikesh were organized during the months of May, July and August, 2007 by National Service Scheme, Dehradun, which were catalyzed and supported by UCOST. Environmental and Ecology Division of Forest Research Institute, Dehradun provided technical support for all the trainings.
The broad objective of the SWM training is to transform colleges/University Campus into Zero Waste Institutions for which work is under progress. The trainings were a huge success and more than 300 students/NSS volunteers /PO's /teachers actively participated under the programme against the target of 126.

Training for Processing and Reservation of Horticulture Produce at Sahaspur, Dehradun The UCOST, Dehradun, has been instrumental in establishing Technology Resource Centers in Uttarakhand with the financial support. A series of food processing and preservation trainings like preservation and storage of mango, green chilies, orange and Rhododendron squash, amla murabba, various products of tomato, continental sauce, papaya chutney etc. for different NGO's situated nearby Dehradun were organized by Centre for Technology Development (CTD), Sahaspur, Dehradun during 1-7 June, 9-15 June, 1-7 August and 21-27 August, 2007. During the programme above 170 master trainers have been trained so far. The 21 NGOs/ SHGs have participated in these training programmes.
Training and Workshop on Ham Radio and Installation of Emergency Communication Centers at Haldwani (Nainital) and Dehradun Ham Radio Installation and Training Workshops were organized by National Service Scheme (NSS), Dehradun (Uttarakhand) during 18-19 August at Haldwani (Nainital) and 20-21 August, 2007 at Dehradun. The programme were catalyzed and supported jointly by UCOST and Vigyan Prasar (VP), DST, Govt. of India, Noida. As a follow up of the ham radio training programme conducted by Vigyan Prasar last year (June 2006), two ham radio equipments sets with accessories have been installed and Emergency Communication Centers were established at each of the following two locations: 1. M.B. Govt. (P.G.) College, Haldwani (Nainital) and 2. Rajiv Gandhi Navodaya Vidyalaya, Dehradun. Ham Radio Club Stations would soon be made operational from both the locations. All the prospective HAM Radio licences were trained in the operational aspects of the equipments, emergency operation procedures and emergency ham radio nets. A total of 111 NSS PO's and volunteers (57 at Haldwani and 54 at Dehradun) attended the programmes.
Training on EDUSAT The Edusat SIT available with Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST), Dehradun was also successfully made operational and configured for proper functionality on August 23, 2007 in Dehradun by Shri Kuldeep Singh, Programme Assistant, Edusat, New Delhi. Different hints and tips related to trouble shooting of the SIT were also deliberated. Ms. Irfana and Rita from Vigyan Prasar EDUSAT Teaching End Terminal, New Delhi interacted with the participants where Video and Text interactive communication features of SIT were demonstrated.
Shri Sandeep Baruah, Scientist, Vigyan Prasar, New Delhi delivered a special lecture on the technical details of functional aspects and aims and objectives of the EDUSAT SIT network. |
