On 8th March 2022 International Women’s Day was celebrated at UCOST. The theme of this year’s women’s day is “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”. On this occasion, Uttarakhand State Science & Technology Council for Science & Technology (UCOST) and NASI- UK Chapter delivered the “Malti Purohit Memorial Award” in the memory of late Mrs Malti Purohit, beloved wife of Padam Shri Prof. A. N. Purohit. She was a journalist, teacher and a well known social activist also. Ms Sonia Garg, Chairperson CII was the chief guest of the occasion. Ms Hemlata Behan, Secretary AAS, Rishikesh was a special guest on this day. More than 100 women working in the field of Science & Technology, Research & Development, Education, Health, Social work, Yogic Science & Naturopathy and tourism were present on this occasion. Dr Rajendra Dobhal, Director General, UCOST welcomed everyone. He said NASI Uttarakhand Chapter has instituted an award “NASI-UK- Late Smt Malti Purohit Memorial Award” for outstanding women scientists of Uttarakhand and this year Dr Renu Dhasmana, Professor & Head, Department of Ophthalmology, Swami Rama Himalayan University was nominated for this award for her outstanding work in the field of health care. On this occasion, Leading women Scientist Award-2022 was conferred to following 9 leading Scientist/Researchers from Uttarakhand; Dr Laxmi Rawat, College of Forestry, Ranichauri; Prof VeenaPande, Kumaun University,Nainital; Dr Neelu J. Ahuja, UPES, Dehradun; Dr Rama Bhargava, Roorkee College of Engineering, Roorkee; Dr Priyanka Uniyal, Government PG College, Gopeshwar; Dr Prerna Pokhriyal,RCU Govt P.G College, Uttarkashi; Ms Meena Joshi, SSJ Campus, Almora; Dr Kanchan Karki, Uttarakhand Council for Biotechnology, Haldi, Pantnagar; Dr. Manjulata, Govt. Degree College, Nainidanda. Further, “UCOST Women Excellence Award- 2022” was given to Dr Prof Anupama Bahadur, Unit Head and Dr Rajlaxmi Mundhra, Associate Professor, from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, AIIMS, Rishikesh. Dr Anupama Bahadur delivered a small talk on the awareness of cervical cancer. Ms Hemlata Behan shared the story of her struggle and empowering the women around you will bring real change in society. On this occasion, Dr Kusum Arunachalam, Dr Madhu Thapliyal, Ms Shailja, Dr Kiran Bhadauria, Dr Manisha Uniyal, Ms Pooja Pokhriyal, Dr Manju Rani, Ms Laxmi Juyal Mishra, Dr Rakesh Singh, Dr Bhawna Chabra, Dr Shalini Rao, Dr Anjum Syed and others discussed the importance of education and awareness for the women from rural regions. All the women participants were awarded on this occasion.
