UCOST Organized Popular Lectures on IPR Awareness
Patent Information Center, Uttarakhand State Council for Science & Technology (UCOST), Dehradun organizes various IPR awareness popularization programme in different parts of the state with an objective to sensitize the researchers/students/scientists/technocrats and common masses on various issues of Intellectual Property.
Two Popular Lectures focusing on “Overview of IPR” & “IPR related Inventions in Medical Sciences” was organized at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Rishikesh on 23rd August, 2016. Prof. Sanjeev Mishra, Director, AIIMS welcome Dr. Rajendra Dobhal, DG UCOST, PIC Officials and the participants.
Dr. Rajendra Dobhal, gave first lecture on topic “Intellectual Property Rights: an Overview”. He described basics of Intellectual Property Rights in details to all the participants. He provided an initial impulse about the program and explained the fundamentals of IPR. He posed a need of IPR’s that will help the science students attending the program, once they will start their career subsequent to completing senior secondary. He explained that Intellectual Property Rights play a critical role in providing protection to scientific creations. Participants were also updated about the importance of IPR in development of science and innovation. In the lecture, he covered patents in detail viz. definition, requirement of patent registration, patentable subject matter, industrial applicability, infringement and fee. Further, he explained that the Copyright protects the artistic creations of mind such as literary & artistic works, audios, cinematographs, software etc. In the end, he motivated students to disseminate the knowledge of IPRs among their friends after getting information from this workshop. He elucidated the available options to get the full financial and technical assistance to the universities, Govt. organization etc. for filing the patents in the Patent office.
Dr. Anju Rawat, Scientist-B, PIC, UCOST gave her Lecture on “IPR related Inventions in Medical Sciences”. She described IPR mainly focuses on the patents. She described the patenting system in India. She enlightened the participants on nuances of patent filing and prosecution in India. She highlighted the importance of patents particularly in the present regime of globalization and liberalization and advised all the delegates to file maximum patents.
The workshop witnessed the presence of Mr. Himanshu Goel, Project Scientist, PIC, UCOST, Mrs. Akansha Chandola Scientific Trainee, PIC, UCOST. Dr. Sanjeev Mittal, IPR Cell Coordinator, AIIMS Rishikesh, Dr. Purnima Gupta, Professor & Head, Dept. of Microbiology, AIIMS and around 400 participants including faculty and students.
