World IP Day Celebrated at Vigyan Dham

World IP Day Celebrated at Vigyan Dham – A one day IPR awareness programme was organized on the occasion of World IP Day 2018, on 26th April, by the Uttarakhand State Council for Science & Technology (UCOST) at Vigyan Dham. Chief Guest, Dr Alaknanda Ashok, Director, Women Institute of Technology, UTU, Dehradun said that in past three decades although there is increase in percentage of women in IPR field but still there is need to aware women folks regarding IPR. Lead Speaker of the day , Ms Lucy Rana, Managing Associate Advocate, S.S. Rana & Co., New Delhi  through her deliberation elaborated on various aspects of IPR like patents, Trademark, Copyright, Industrial Design and Geographical indication. Further she told about famous women innovators who made significant impact on societies through their innovations. She also presented a picture of contribution of women scientists in innovation. Dr Suita Tripathy, Associate Professor, Jindal Global Law School, Sonipat, Hariyana spoke about commercialization of IPR and presented current scenario of IPR commercialization in India. She further explained the aspects of commercialization within Patent Law, Trademark Law and Copyright Law.

Dr Dobhal spoke about the theme of World IP Day, “Powering Change: Women In Innovation and Creativity”. He emphasizes that women work daily towards improvement of lives of the people of a society but rarely do they get recognition for their work as can be seen by the low number of women inventors in Patent filing.   Culture of innovation should be inculcated at a very early stage, from school level in students. He said that there is need of involvement of industry in promotion of academic system and development of R & D in structured fashion so that it can find market easily. He reiterated the need to develop innovative attitude and mindset and encourage wild ideas with organized judgments.

Dr. Anju Rawat, Scientist-B, PIC proposed the vote of thanks. Faculty members & Research Scholars from different Institutes/ Universities and UCOST staff attended the lecture.
