Celebrating the History, Science and Art of Photography
World Photography Day – To celebrate the history, science and art of photography, UCOST organized a webinar on World Photography Day 2021 on 19th August 2021. Mr. Threesh Kapoor, Director, The Buransh Hotel, Kausani was the Chief Guest and Mr. Mohit Dang, MD, Hotel Inderlok Dehradun was the Guest of Honour in the event. Dr Rajendra Dobhal, FNASc, Director General, UCOST, welcomed the Chief Guest and all the participants who had joined online and shared his thoughts on the technological advancements in field of photography from black & white pictures, to analogue and the present day digital modes. Sh. Mohit Dang delivered a lecture on “Technical aspects of Photography” through presentation and discussed the history and gradual evolution of photography cameras. He told about different types of photography, viz., wildlife, landscape, architectural etc., basic photography gears, various types of lenses and elaborated upon the significance of optimal light effect through proper selection of ISO, Shutter speed and Aperture settings in camera. Mr. Kapoor delivered a talk on “Himalayan Landscape & photography” and made audience aware of basic techniques of digital photography. He specially discussed the techniques for capturing pictures during lightening and astrophotography, and emphasized the impact of clouds and light in context of Himalayan Landscape photography.
The program was coordinated by Dr Aparna Sharma, SSO. Dr D.P. Uniyal, Joint Director, delivered the vote of thanks to the chair and all the participants. The program was attended by more than 60 participants including Sh. G.S. Rautela, Advisor, Science City, Dehradun, Sh. T. Dasgupta, Nature photographer from Delhi, University & college teachers, students and UCOST staff. The program was widely appreciated by the audience and a request was made to UCOST to organise an offline training program in photography once the covid situation in State normalizes.
