Uttarakhand State Council for Science & Technology (UCOST), Dehradun organizes various Science popularization programme in different parts of the state with an objective to sensitize the researchers/students/scientists/technocrats and common masses on various issues of Science & technology.
Every Year National Technology Day is celebrated across India on 11th May. It was on 11th May, 1998,that India achieved a major technological breakthrough by successfully carrying out series of nuclear tests at Pokhran. Also the first, indigenous aircraft “Hansa-3” was test flown from Bangalore on this day and India also performed successful test firing of the Trishul missile on the same day. Considering the technological advancements, the then Prime Minister, Shri. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, declared 11th May to be celebrated as National Technology Day every year. Technology Day is celebrated as a symbol of quest for scientific inquiry, technological creativity and the translation of that quest in the integration of Science, Society and Industry. This day is also celebrated to honour technological innovations and their successful commercialization which takes the fruits of research to reach to people at large.
This year’s event will take a closer look at the need, the technology, the benefits, the status, the barriers, contact points, and the references that make technology adoption and implementation a reality. Technology Day 2016 will answer all those nagging questions that keep construction a professional wondering when is the right time to make the right technology investments. Dr. Prabhat Ranjan, Executive Director, TIFAC, Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, given his consent for delivering popular lecture on the occasion of Technology Day. In this occasion the students/researchers/faculty members of local Universities/colleges/institutions can be called for the interaction at Vigyan Dham, Jhajra at 11 AM dated 11th May, 2016.
