Uttarakhand State Council for Science & Technology (UCOST), Dehradun, Govt. of Uttarakhand, National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI), Uttarakhand Chapter and SPECS jointly organized a plantation fest on the occasion of Harela on 18th July 2022 at UCOST, Vigyan Dham, Jhajra Dehradun. During the inauguration of this plantation program, Dr Aparna Sharma, Senior Scientific Officer, UCOST, Dehradun coordinated the session and delivered the welcome address. Dr D. P. Uniyal Joint Director, UCOST in his address talked about the background of the harela festival, its significance and the traditional knowledge behind this. Dr B. M. Sharma, Secretary SPECS shared his experiences about the plantation drive organised by them in Dehradun. He suggested that the most important thing in plantation drive is to communicate the message properly to the community and provide them with plants which they need. Shri G. S. Rautela, Advisor- Science City, Dehradun gave detailed information about prayers and rituals followed during harela. He also said that we should only plant those plants which have environmental value. Dr Ashutosh Mishra, Senior Scientific Officer, UCOST, delivered the vote of thanks. More than 50 Plants have been roped in the Vigyan Dham premises by officials & staff of UCOST and Uttarakhand Council for Biotech. On this occasion Dr B.P.Purohit, Shri Amit Pokhariyal, Sh. Jitendra Kumar and UCOST & UCB staff was presented.
