Celebration of Science day and Grand Finale – Valedictory of the week-long festival of Science and Technology

28th February 2022, the seventh day of the week-long festival of Science and Technology, Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate along with Science day was celebrated as the Grand Finale-Valedictory session in the Uttarakhand State Council for Science & Technology (UCOST), Dehradun. Dr Kalachand Sain, Director, WIHG, Dehradun, Prof A.N. Purohit Former VC, HNB Garhwal University, Srinagar, Er Rakesh Oberai, Chairman, Oberai Motor, Dehradun, Prof Ajeet Kumar Karnatak, Vice-Chancellor, V.C.S.G Uttarakhand University of Horticulture and Forestry, Bharsar, Dr Hem Chandra Pandey, and Dr Mahesh Bhatt, Surgeon were present in this session. The session was started by the welcome address of Dr D.P. Uniyal, Joint Director UCOST and was followed by the screening of the different science-based films and “swagat sangeet” by UCOST staff. Dr Uniyal, in his address, thanked all dignitaries, students, faculty and officials present on this occasion. He thanked the team of Hemwati Nandan Bahugna University, Srinagar and Gurukul Kangri University, Haridwar for coordinating the event at Srinagar and Haridwar region. In his speech, he shared glimpses of the events and lectures organized during the Science Festival from 22nd -28th February 2022. He emphasizes to students the importance of books and libraries in the field of science and research. Dr Bhatt launches his video poem entitled “Main Vigyan Hun”. The poem was highly appreciated by the respected dignitaries and the audience.

Dr Purohit shares his views and thought about science popularization. He aware the students about science-based scholarships and schemes. He also informed the audience that the UN declared 2022 as the basic science year. Dr Sain, Er Oberai, Prof. Karnatak and Prof. Pandey in their speeches motivated the student to gain true scientific knowledge and talked about the role of Science, Technology and Innovation for the economy upliftment of Indian society. This science week highlights the importance of promoting science education and inculcating a scientific temperament in children at an early age. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Ashutosh Mishra, Sr. Scientific Officer, UCOST and the session was coordinated by Dr Aparna Sharma, Sr. Scientific Officer UCOST. Several government and non-government institutions like Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Survey of India,  Himalayan Action Research Centre (HARC), SPECS, Indian Institute of Petroleum, Instruments Research for Development Establishment (IRDE), National Innovation Foundation, Wildlife Institute of India, Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, Tula’s Institute, Defence Electronics Applications Laboratory (DEAL), Krishivan Samiti, M/S Bishen Singh Mahendra Pal Singh etc., participated in the exhibition. In this Program Dr Rajendra Dobhal, Director General, UCOST and Shri G. S. Rautela (through online mode), Dr D. P. Uniyal, Joint Director UCOST,  Dr B. P. Purohit, Dr Ashutosh Mishra, Er. Jitendra, Shri Amit Pokhriyal, UCOST Staff, Dr Prasant Singh, D.A.V P.G. College, Staff of UCOST and Biotech Council and students from ICFAI University, DBIT, Alpine College, Graphic Era University, ITITI and many other colleges were present. This session was attended by more than 300 participants through hybrid mode. The technical team Mr Himanshu Goel, Mr Manoj Kaniyal and Mr Sidhhant Uniyal, UCOST helped in the smooth running of the program through hybrid mode and the Photography of the whole week-long science festival was done by Mr Narendra Jassal, UCOST.

Awards were distributed among the winners who had participated in various competitions like a slogan, poetry, essay, rangoli during the science festival. The winners for the poster category from the group first were Kavish Joshi, St. Joseph Academy Dehradun (1st); Mitali Raj, Mont Ford School Roorkee (2nd); Aaditya Kapooria, St. Patrick’s Academy Dehradun (3rd).  The winners for the poster category from group second were Aadya Aggarwal, DPS Ranipur Haridwar (1st); Nidhavi Singla, Unison World School, Dehradun (2nd) and SairaNidan, Unison World School, Dehradun (3rd). The winner for the poster category from group third was Anushka Negi (1st) . The winners for the poster category from group four were Swati Pant (1st); Suhasini Awasthi, Pt. Lalit Mohan Sharma Government PG College Rishikesh (2nd); Deepa Panwar, K.L D.A.V College Roorkee (3rd).  The winner for the essay category from group one was Divyansh Mehra (1st) Green Wood Hill School Dehradun. The winners for the essay category from group two were Aniket Awasthi, D S B International Public School Dehradun (1st); Sreeja Jana, The Tones Bridge School Dehradun (2nd); Tamnna Bhardwaj, Unison World School Dehradun (3rd). The winners for the essay category from group three were Karan Mehra, St. Lawrence Senior Secondary School Haldwani Nainital (1st); Shyam Pathak, Rajkiya Inter College Shakti Farm, Sitarganj US Nagar (2nd); Divisha Agarwal, Brightlands School Dehradun (3rd). The winners for the essay category from group four were Rekha Kumari, Kanya Gurukul Campus Haridwar (1st);  Suhasini Awasthi, Pt. Lalit Mohan Sharma Government PG College Rishikesh (2nd);  Tabassum Ansari, Forest Research Institute Dehradun (3rd). The winners for the poetry category from group one were Tanishka Negi, I. V. R. I Mukteshwar Nainital(1st);   Plaksha Mathpal, Kumaun Public School (2nd);   Mitali Raj, Mont Ford School Roorkee (3rd). The winners for the poetry category from group two were Ayushman Mishra, St. Joseph Academy Dehradun (1st);   Aaanya Mahajan, Unison World School Dehradun (2nd);   Aadarsh Neoliya, AryamanVikram Birla Institute of learning Haldwani (3rd). The winner for the poetry category from group three was Anushka, Army Public School Dehradun (1st). The winners for the poetry category from group four were Rajendra Bagadwal, G. I. C. Lamgara Almora (1st);   Arvind Sharma, IGNOU Dehradun (2nd);   Nikita Chadha, M. K. P. PG College Dehradun (3rd). The winners for the slogan category from group one were Kavish Joshi, St. Joseph Academy Dehradun (1st);   Mitali Raj, Mont Ford School Roorkee (2nd);   Divyansh Mehra, Green Wood Hill School Dehradun (3rd). The winners for the slogan category from group two were Ayushman Mishra, St. Joseph Academy Dehradun (1st);   Vanya Agarwal (2nd);   and Aradhya Chauhan (3rd) from Unison World School Dehradun. The winners for the slogan category from group three were Samiksha Bisht, K. V. ONGC Dehradun (1st);   Anushka Singh (2nd);   and Deepshikha Maithani (3rd) from St. Joseph Academy Dehradun. The winners for the slogan category from group four were Monika Rana, D. B. S. PG College Dehradun (1st);   Pratiksha Joshi, CSIR-Indian Institute of Petroleum Dehradun (2nd);   and Arvind Sharma IGNOU Dehradun (3rd). The winners for the Rangoli category were Anurag Ramola, KV ONGC Dehradun (1st); Renuka Patel and team, D.
