Wildlife Week Celebration at UCOST
Wildlife Week Celebration – Uttarakhand State Council for Science & Technology (UCOST), Dehradun in joint collaboration with Wildlife Preservation Society (WPS) and National Academy of Sciences India, Uttarakhand Chapter celebrated 78th Wildlife Week on 5th Oct, 2016 at Vigyan Dham Premises which is observed from 1st to 7th October every year in India. Dr. V. B. Mathur, Director, Wildlife Institute of India Dehradun was the chief guest of the program and Shri Jai Raj, PCCF, Uttarakhand Forest Department was the Guest of Honor. This year’s theme of this week is Members Matter: Working Together for Wildlife, focuses on the contributions that individuals, schools, and communities can make for the wildlife in their own areas and across the nation. Program started with the welcome address by Dr. Rajendra Dhobhal, Director General, UCOST who shared his experiences and marked the importance of wildlife in our society. Eminent Guest of honor Shri Jai Raj, being a philanthropist, addressed about the treasure we had in form of forest and for survival of human we need to protect them as well. Chief Guest of the day Dr. V. B. Mathur added that India being among mega diverse countries should utilize wildlife resources in better strategic manner so as to conserve Wild Life and with the help of Science & Technology we could find out better ways to overcome human-animal conflicts. Shri Narendra Singh, Secretary, WPS gave a concluding remark and formal vote of thanks.
