Earth Day 2017 Celebrated at Vigyan Dham, Dehradun

Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on 22nd April worldwide. Various events are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Regional Science Centre Dehradun celebrated Earth Day-2017 in its premises at Vigyan Dham (UCOST), Dehradun. UCOST celebrated Earth Day 2017 at Regional Science Centre, Vigyan Dham, Dehradun on 22nd April, 2017. Dr S.S.Negi, Former Director General, MOEF, Govt. of India, New Delhi was the chief guest and Dr K. S. Misra, Former Additional Director General, Geological Survey of India & Currently  Professor, UPES, Dehradun was the key note speaker of the program. Dr Rajendra Dobhal, Director General, UCOST welcome the guest and told that keep small things in mind to save our earth. Dr Misra spoke on the role and importance of GIS & Remote Sensing technology for our earth. In his Popular Lecture on, “Remote Sensing of Earth”, he shed light on various aspects and applications of remote sensing on resource & earthquake mapping, mineral and oil exploration, and various others. Participants applaud the deliberations. He explained GIS & Remote Sensing beautifully with practical examples. Dr Negi, in his deliberations beautifully explained natural resource management, solid and mineral waste management and its importance and impact on developing country like India. Dr Negi told that the citizens of our country have good awareness about earth but we have to do much more for the betterment of entire environment. In the end Dr K.N. Bhardwaj gave a formal vote of thanks to the dignitaries and participants. Ms. Akanksha Chandola coordinated the whole session. A total of 60 PG and research students of DAV (PG) college, Maya Institute Selaqui, Baba Farid Institute of Technology (BFIT), and Dolphin Institute of Biomedical & Natural Sciences along with 38 students with their 16 escort teachers from schools of various parts of Himachal Pradesh participated in the event. Later, all the participants visited Regional Science Centre Dehradun.
