Visit of United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Officials to UCOST Dehradun

To give impetus to IPR awareness and filling in Uttarakhand, two Officials from USPTO, Mr. John Cabeca, US Intellectual Property attaché and Ms Shilpi Jha, Senior Policy & Legal counsel Intellectual Property – South Asia Embassy of the United States of America, New Delhi visited UCOST Dehradun on 9th August 2021. The meeting was chaired by Dr Rajendra Dobhal, Director General and attended by Dr D.P Uniyal, Joint Director, Dr Aparna Sharma, Senior Scientific Officer, Dr Ashutosh Mishra, Senior Scientific Officer (I/c), Dr B.P Purohit, Consultant, DBT Project and Sh Amit Pokhriyal, Manager (PR). The main focus issues discussed during the meeting included discussion of IPR regime in India, issues faced in IPR filling, relaxation of Health & Agriculture sectors from IP (due to govt. policies, viz. Health for all, food for all.). Regarding Uttarakhand state, the US embassy officials were briefed about the handicrafts and handlooms of the state which have been registered as GI, potential candidates as GI, trademarks, patents etc. The embassy officials assured co-operation and support for carrying out IPR awareness, workshops/seminars in online/offline mode in collaboration with UCOST. The meeting ended with vote of thanks.
