Workshop-cum-Brainstorming on “Forest-based Resources and Livelihood Options “on 3rd November ,2022 organised by CoE Project, UCOST
A state level Workshop cum brainstorming on “forest-based resources and livelihood options” was held on 3rd November, 2022 at G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment (GBPNIHE), Almora jointly organised by Centre of Excellence on forest-based livelihood Project, UCOST and GBPNIHE, Almora . Current state of knowledge on forest- based resources and their role in providing livelihood to the indigenous communities, with this theme this workshop organized.
Dr. Sunil Nautiyal, Director,GBPNIHE, welcomed all the eminent dignitaries. In his address talked about challenges and issues related to forest-based livelihood and models villages in India that can set examples for other forest fringe villages in Uttarakhand.
Dr. Ashutosh Mishra, Senior Scientific Officer, UCOST, Dehradun, talked about the COE project. Dr.I.D.Bhatt , Scientific -F, GBPNIHE, talked about the workshop and it’s outcomes.
Special invitee – STS Lepcha, Former Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Dehradun, Shri. Anil Bisht, CO, ITBP Bimola Almora and Prof. Jeet Ram, Prof. & Head, Dept. of Forestry, KU – Guest of Honour, and Chief Guest – R.K. Maikhuri, HNBGU Srinagar were present in the workshop. Three Technical sessions were conducted during the workshop on theme – Session I – Current state of knowledge on forest-based resources, Session II – Forest-based Resources and Livelihood Options and Session III – Strategies for Sustainable Harnessing the Potential of NTFPs and way forward. CoE team -Dr Ashutosh Mishra (SSO, UCOST), Dr. Rommila Chandra (SO, UCOST ), Dr. Monika (Senior Scientist-CoE), Siddharth Napachayal (Scientist, CoE), eminent dignitaries from 24 organisations , 5 IHR states and 9 districts of Uttarakhand, scientists , IFS,DFO , NGO representatives , GBPNIHE Staff, Research Scholars, students from various colleges were participated in the workshop.
