Inauguration of a week-long festival of Science and Technology “Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate” on 22 February 2022 at UCOST

A week-long festival of Science & Technology, “Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate” is organized jointly by the Vigyan Prasar, an autonomous body of the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST), Uttarakhand and National Academy of Sciences (NASI-UK Chapter) on February 22-28, 2022 at UCOST. The welcome address was delivered by Dr D.P.Uniyal, Joint Director, UCOST, Dehradun.  The inaugural session was addressed by Dr Rajendra Dobhal, Director General, UCOST, Dehradun. He talked about the history of science, the importance of the popularization of science and the role of scientists in benefiting society. The chief guest of the programme was Prof. R.C. Sobti, Former Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh. He delivered an informative lecture on “Emerging Technologies in Biomedical Sciences: Precision in Health Care.” He also emphasized the importance of multidiscipline collaborations in providing efficient health services to society. Prof A.N. Purohit Former VC, HNB Garhwal University, Srinagar and Dr B.R. Arora, Former Director, WIHG, Dehradun were also present on this occasion. Lastly, Dr Aparna Sharma, Sr. Scientific Officer, UCOST, Dehradun, gave a vote of thanks to all the speakers and participants. The event was followed by the inauguration of the exhibition. Eminent government and non-government institutions like Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Survey of India,  Himalayan Action Research Centre (HARC), SPECS, Indian Institute of Petroleum, Instruments Research for Development Establishment (IRDE), Natraj Publisher, National Innovation Foundation, Wildlife Institute of India, Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, Tula’s Institute, Defence Electronics Applications Laboratory (DEAL), Krishivan Samiti, M/S Bishen Singh Mahendra Pal Singh etc., participated in the exhibition. The session was continued by the screening of the different science-based films. The event was organized through hybrid (online and offline) mode in which more than 250 students and officials participated. On this occasion UCOST staff, Biotech Council staff,  government officials and scientists were present.
