International Science Centre and Science Museum Day
Regional Science Centre, Dehradun Celebrated “International Science Center and Science Museum Day (ISCSMD)” on November 10, 2016 by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the International Council of Museums, Science Centers, Science museums, and their networks worldwide. On this day, science centers and science museums are invited and encouraged to offer activities based on one or more of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) declared by the United Nations (UN). Building upon that UNESCO theme of “Science for Peace and Development,” goal of ISCSMD is to create new ways to proactively address global sustainability while reaching increasingly diverse audiences.
The chief guest of the function was Prof. H.S. Dhami, former Vice Chancellor, Kumaun University Nainital and presently the Vice Chancellor of Uttarakhand Residential University (URU), Almora. Prof Dhami in his speech pointed out that the efforts of Science Centre are not only to showcase developments in Science & Technology, but also to create rational thinking and scientific temperament among people. He appraised the efforts of RSC Dehradun and said that various galleries, innovation hub, planetarium and 3D film shows are instrumental to impart a long lasting interest towards science among students. Dr Rajendra Dobhal, DG UCOST in his speech shed light on importance of Science Centers. He said that interactive exhibits in Science centre discriminates them among other types of museums, which involves visitors in doing science and to maintain persistent interest towards it. He also emphasized on to organize activity based programs at the centre.
On this occasion, Prof Dhami and Dr Dobhal formally inaugurated Souvenir / Gift Shop “Jigyasa” run by M/s Lab Solutions, Kurukshetra at RSC Dehradun premises. The program was ended with vote of thanks by Dr DP Uniyal, In-charge RSC Dehradun.
